How do I see PseudoNMs?

PseudoNMs are QuickTime ".mov" files. You need the QuickTime Player to view them. If you've already got it, or know how to get it, skip the rest of this section. If you're not familiar with QuickTime and want to know how to use it, read on.

You'll also need an Internet browser that supports QTVR movies. Netscape 3.0 and above and Microsoft Internet Explorer 3.0 and above both do.

Briefly, here's what you need to:

  1. Download the QuickTime Movie Player
  2. Install it on your system
  3. Load a PseudoNM
  4. View it

Here are specific directions for each step:

1) Download the QuickTime Movie Player

The QuickTime Movie Player is a product of Apple Computer. There are version available for both Windows and Macintosh machines. Of course, be sure to get the version that is correct for your computer and operating system. You can download the player from their site at the following link:

2) Install the QuickTime Movie Player on Your System

Once you have downloaded the QuickTime movie player, you'll need to install it on your system. Please follow the specific instructions on the QuickTime download page for doing so. If your browser allows the use of plug-ins, be sure to have the install program do that too.

3) Load a PseudoNM

You're only seconds away from viewing a PseudoNM. Well, actually, depending on your Internet connection, seconds to minutes to lots of minutes. These files can be very big - well over a meg - and if you're not on a high-speed Internet connection, will download very slowly. To load a PseudoNM, just select the one you want from the list of PseudoNMs and click on its link While it transfers, this may be a good time to go get a cup of coffee or re-read "War and Peace".

4) View a PseudoNM

Once the PseudoNM file you've selected has been downloaded and appears on your screen, you can start navigating around it. Here are the controls you'll use:

To move in any direction (even up or down to a degree), click and hold the left mouse button and point in that direction.

To zoom in an an object, press the SHIFT button. To zoom back out, press CONTROL.
