The GNIS homepage is a valuable tool when researching New Mexico place names. Type in any place name in New Mexico - a mountain, lake, town, etc. - and you'll be presented with a map of the site and other relevant information. Because the GNIS is a government agency, the maps are not copyrighted.

New Mexico

American Memory Collection
The American Memory Collection is a service of the Library of Congress and contains photos, interviews and other records from New Deal artists and photographers. Search by "New Mexico" and be prepared to spend the rest of the day looking through some great photos and reading interviews.

New Mexico Department of Tourism
This is a comprehensive site of, for and about all things New Mexican. They do an excellent job highlighting the bounty that is New Mexico.

Bureau of Land Management
The BLM owns and manages a significant amount of land in New Mexico.
