The GNIS homepage is a valuable tool when researching New Mexico place
names. Type in any place name in New Mexico - a mountain, lake, town, etc.
- and you'll be presented with a map of the site and other relevant information.
Because the GNIS is a government agency, the maps are not copyrighted.
MapQuest
A useful site when you need to know how to get there from here. This
is a commercial site, and restrictions do apply for the use of the maps.
New Mexico
American Memory Collection
The American Memory Collection is a service of the Library of Congress
and contains photos, interviews and other records from New Deal artists
and photographers. Search by "New Mexico" and be prepared to
spend the rest of the day looking through some great photos and reading
interviews.
New Mexico Department of Tourism
This is a comprehensive site of, for and about all things New Mexican.
They do an excellent job highlighting the bounty that is New Mexico.
Public Lands and Resources
Bureau of Land Management
The BLM owns and manages a significant amount of land in New Mexico.
New Mexico Bureau of Mines and
Mineral Resources
The Bureau of Mines and Mineral Resources at New Mexico Tech is a good
location to find information on mining and geology in New Mexico. This
page also includes a look at some of the minerals found in New Mexico.
