Vera's Mexican Kitchen, Chama

Location

On the main drag (NM 17) of Chama, just north of the turnoff of U.S. 64/84, on the right.

Best New Mexican food north of Albuqurque. Don't be put off by the modern decor. Only last year it was just a hole in the wall across the street.

The back porch overlooks a horse pasture and beautiful mountains. Eat there in nice weather. It can be crowded on busy summer weekends, but the food is worth the wait. Be prepared for hot, flavorful NM cuisine!

We ate here based on the previous review, and were not disappointed. Vera presides personally, and the service is outstanding and the food delicious. When in Chama, it's a good idea to eat before returning to whence one came, as it is quite a lonely drive from there to Taos, Santa Fe or Albuquerque, and we really enjoyed it. Beautiful new building, and clearly Vera is a pillar of the community in tiny Chama.. Our kids also enjoyed the food.
