Located in Clayton, New Mexico, on Main Street. If going north on Highway 87, turn left at stop light.
The Eklund Hotel is one of Clayton's oldest establishments, having been built in stages from 1895 to 1905. It is a 3-story rock structure, with wrought iron balconies on the 2nd and 3rd stories. Inside, there is a lunchroom located in the old saloon (original bar and bullet holes in ceiling) as well as a formal dining room with marble fire- places. The menu contains an assortment of New Mexican and American dishes, my favorite being the enchiladas, the stuffed sopapilla, and the broiled Rainbow trout. The steaks and prime rib are also very good. Prices range from $1+ (for ala carte items) to around $18 (for large steaks, shrimp, etc.) All in all, it is a very good place to eat with a lot of history and atmosphere.
