Giron's Diner

Ojo Caliente
US Hwy 285, Ojo Caliente, NM

Review

In a strip of businesses on the east side of US 285 sits Giron's Diner. It is a one-man operation run by Charles Giron. Charles learned his culinary skills at excellent restaurants in Santa Fe. His family is from Ojo Caliente and he returned 3 years ago to be with his father who had cancer. His father has recovered and Charles loves the pace of life and the interesting people at Ojo Caliente. Charles is as lively, funny, and accommodating a host as you will find anywhere. No pretentions here! The interior of the restaurant is standard "New Mexican, by the side of the road diner" decor. However, Giron's Diner serves excellent Mexican food. It's probably the best Mexican food in a 50 mile radius. It's a real treasure. Not only that, Charles' true specialty is desserts. We had a 3 chocolate pie that was to die for. In addition, the restaurant attracts people from all over: employees & vistors to the Hot Springs, locals, scientists from Los Alamos, transplants from everywhere who now work in New Mexico, etc. You can hear stories from patrons that are as warm and as humorous as those found in the "Milagro Beanfield War." It's a true crossroads of America and it's worth visiting.
