To reach some of the more interesting petroglyphs, follow the main trail from the picnic area. The trail is 1,400 yards (1.2km) long and has a shaded shelter midway. The trail slope is gentle, providing an easy hike. Remember, this part of New Mexico can be quite hot during the summer and fall, so pack plenty of water.

Across the road from the picnic area is a small village site. The village has be partially excavated, giving a glimpse of life amongst the Jornada branch of the Mogollon culture. There is one multi-room adobe structure, a masonry house, and a pithouse.

Caution Remember, rattlesnakes reside in the area, so keep an eye on small children and animals. Normal hiking precautions should be taken during the spring-through-fall seasons. Rattlers are timid creatures, and won't bother you unless cornered or provoked.
